Just letting you guys know, I am still out here. Couple of years ago I responded when someone asked if he was the oldest B-King rider, and I came back with age 71. Well, now I will be 74 in March and wondering if I am STILL the oldest B-King rider. I bought my B-King new, and now have gone over 23,000 miles. Some of you might not believe this, but I GET 50 MILES PER GALLON! Yes, I do. Motorcycle Consumer News, when they tested the King, (I still have the book) said they got 37, but that was because it was so much fun to run around in traffic in third gear. With the King, you don't need third, or second in traffic. I SHIFT UP, getting into 4th and above quickly. There is plenty of torque in that engine, and I rarely ever have to downshift to go around ANYTHING, either on a surface street, or Interstate. Don't get me wrong, I crank it on a lot, but there is NO REASON to be twisting the throttle way around when you ride as many miles as I do. I take long trips, regularly. Well, long if you consider three to four hours of steady riding in one direction as a long trip. I plan longer a longer trip this year. a stop in KC, MO to see family, then on to the Black Hills. NO, NOT THE STURGIS BIT. I've got a small clear windshield on the bike, which my two adult sons hate, saying it doesn't belong on that bike, but I am the one who takes the loooong rides. With no shield, as you owners know, the airflow is quite pleasant up until about 70. The headlight bezel does a pretty good job of running the air up to the top of your helmet. But above 70, the wind can beat you to death. The small, clear shield I added seemed to create a little wind buffeting noise around my waist between 55 and 65, but above 70 I can now ride endlessly. The shield comes off with two twist knobs if need be. Look for me in the Central Alabama area, Helena.
